This is where we set the foundations for you and we’ll build upon this knowledge through the rest of the program.

Module 2 circle

YOUR BIG GREEN DREAM…AND HOW TO CREATE IT

Module 2 guides you through your reason for renovating or building. You’ll be totally clear on what you and your partner or your family really value, and whether you need to be mindful of anyone’s health while making your material selections.

This is where we develop the blueprint for you to achieve your green design dreams. A design project with a defined dream helps to make the process easier and less stressful, and if you stay true to your vision and values, the happier you’ll be once your project is finished. I’ll also give you my must-have tools to use as you start your project.

Module 3 circle

MASSES OF MATERIALS

In this module we deep dive into the detail of each material category for your interiors, exploring all the pros and cons for a huge variety of options. We’ll discuss everything you can walk on, touch, feel and see inside your home – so no matter what you choose, you’ll be purchasing with your eyes wide open and the peace of mind that comes with being in the know.

In this module we’ll look at flooring, walls, ceilings, timber, benchtops, paint, window coverings and more.

Module 4 circle

ROOM REVIEW

Building upon your new found knowledge of the different types of materials, we’ll open the door to each room in your home so you understand all the areas of opportunity and concern within each space. It’s one thing to understand each material type, but you’ll take your skills to the next level when I show you how to pull it all together.

BUT WHY LISTEN TO ME?

I’ve got you covered!

Nadine Samwell founder of Eco Edition

I’m Nadine Samwell and I’m an interior designer, serial renovator and founder of the Eco Edition Design School.

I’ve been an interior designer for over 15 years and a renovator for over 20 years. In my professional career I’ve worked across a huge range of projects, many of which were sustainability accredited projects. I’ve woven this extensive knowledge into each lesson.

As a renovator I’ve learnt through hands on experience all the ins and outs of creating a gorgeous home. I understand what homeowners want – the tools, guides and above all else the SIMPLICITY – to help create the perfect project.

I’m a Healthy Materials Advocate after undertaking studies in Healthier Materials and Sustainable Buildings.

I’m also the founder and editor of Eco Edition, an online design resource which solely focusses on sustainable homes, as well as how-to guides, materials, furniture, furnishings and loads more. I’ve researched, interviewed and written about countless projects and materials and I’ve learnt from some of the best sustainable architects, building designers and interior designers in the business.

Also, I live and breath the sustainability lifestyle. In my home, my family and I conserve water and electricity, we grow our own veggies on our inner city block, buy second hand when we can, only have 1 car, compost everything and have managed to reduce our landfill waste down to one very small bag every week.

Let me answer some for you

What is the SUSTAINABLE METHODS COURSE all about and who is it for?

This course is definitely for you in you are thinking about or are currently renovating or building your dream sustainable and healthy home and want to do it RIGHT, to suit your BUDGET and STYLE, as SIMPLY as possible.

Absolutely not. I welcome students from around the world joining the course.

I go to great lengths to include materials and finishes which are relevant and attainable all over the world – because I recommend that you always try and source locally (within your country) where possible.

The course is delivered in English.

You can do the course in one go or take your time with it. It’s totally up to you and whatever suits your lifestyle.

I've never renovated or built a house before - Is this course right for me?

Yes definitely! That’s what this course is all about. Most people haven’t renovated or built a sustainable house before and yet somehow we’re expected to understand what is sustainable and how to choose the right materials for the interior of our home?

Well no, you don’t know what you don’t know – and that’s why I am here. I do know!

I know how to go about the process from the very start to the very end. You get to learn from my expertise!

I'm an interior designer or design professional - Can I do this course?

Of course you can! Choosing sustainable and healthy materials is a new and overwhelming area for a lot of people in the interior design, architecture and building industry. People generally understand that a homes structure needs to be built sustainably but not as many people are knowledgeable about sustainable and healthy materials for the interior of a home. Material health in particular is a relatively new concept, but is important to understand and is quickly gaining interest and popularity amongst sustainability-savvy or health conscious home owners.
